- Start at the main parking lot of Don Castro East Bay Regional Park. East on through the parking lot and the overflow parking lot to the Ridgetop Trail. 0.3 miles, rolling
- Enter the Ridgetop Trail. 0.2 miles, dirt road, descent
- Right on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail. Cross the bridge. 1 block, dirt road, flat
- Left to stay on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail. The trail turns left onto a paved road for 100 feet, then right onto a single track 0.2 mile total, climb.
- Right to stay on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail as it travels alongside Five Canyons Parkway,0.1 Mile, gravel path alongside a sidewalk, climb
- Right on Shady Canyon Trail, which is initially a paved road that then runs through a small park, then crosses a paved road to enter a dirt single track. The single track then crosses another paved road. The trail is signed all along the way as Shady Canyon Trail. 0.5 miles, paved road and single track, rolling
- Right on Deer Canyon. 1.1 Mile, dirt road, climb
- The trail ends at a paved road. Turn around to retrace your route. 1.1 mile, dirt road, descent
- Strait onto Shady Canyon Trail. 0.4 miles, single track, climb
- Left onto Newt Pond Trail. 0.5 miles, dirt road, climb
- Right onto Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, 4.2 miles, dirt road, rolling but mostly climb.
- At the radio tower turn around to retrace your route. 4.2 miles, dirt road, rolling but mostly descent.
- right onto Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, 0.7 miles, dirt Road, climb, then descent
- Right onto the paved access road to stay on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, 0.2 miles, paved road, descent
- Right to stay on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, 0.4 miles, dirt road, descent
- Cross Five Canyons Parkway, then right to follow the parkway on the gravel trail next to the sidewalk which is the continuation of Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, 0.2 miles, gravel path alongside a sidewalk, descent
- Left to continue on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, the trail is initially a single track, then turns left on a paved road for 100 feet, then right onto a dirt road. Total 0.2 miles, descent.
- Right to stay on Chabot to Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail, cross the bridge. 1 block, dirt road, flat
- Left on Ridgeline Trail. 0.2 miles, dirt road, climb
- Enter the overflow parking lot, then the main parking lot. 0.3 miles, rolling
