Description: Las Trampas is a sizable park that straddles two ridges with the main entrance in the valley between, on Bollinger Canyon Rd. outside of San Ramon. There are 17 miles of trails open to bikes that are 100% fire road with little shade cover and are generally steep. Some riders consider Las Trampas a climbing challenge, others just consider it punishment without the reward of interesting trails. While the climb and technical difficulty scores would point to intermediate trails or easier, the steepness and total feet of climb makes the recommended rides Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond. Unfortunately, it gets no easier at this park. The trails not included in the recommended rides are much steeper. Be careful to study the park topo map, as many of the climbs have sections that exceed 20% incline and get as steep as 30%. The Del Amigo trail and the Fiddleneck trail, which are NOT included in our recommended rides, should be avoided in uphill direction since they both exceed 25% grade. Trail use restrictions for bicycles limits the rides to out and back; there are no viable loops. Restrooms are at the Bollinger Canyon Entrance. There are two connectors running out of Las Trampas. The Las Trampas to Mt. Diablo connector trail runs out of the Camille Lane entrance, and a connector to Briones Regional Park runs out of the north end of the park.

In the Wet Season: Call the East Bay Regional Park District office for trail closure information. Clay soil makes many trails impassible after a rain.
Directions: Barely within a 45 minute drive of San Jose, I 680 north to Bollinger Canyon Rd West. Take Bollinger canyon to the end where both the 1000 footer and the Best Ride start. A link to the parking location in Google Maps is here. There are also entrances from Danville on Starview Drive, on Remington Loop Rd, and on Elworthy Ranch Rd. Entrances are also in Alamo on Camille Lane or Las Trampas Rd. Only the Elworthy entrance has a dedicated parking lot.
