Description: One of the best mountain bike locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, El Corte de Madera Creek (ECDMC) offers 20 miles of single track and 14 miles of fire road through a redwood forest.  Locals know the park as Skeggs Point for an overlook with a parking lot on Skyline Road opposite the park that was the only parking before the park was developed.  ECDMC is over 95% in the shade making it an excellent destination on hot summer days. Sierra Moreno and Oljan single tracks are excellent intermediate trails.  But beware, although our recommended rides define an intermediate route, the majority of trails in ECDMC are extremely challenging for both technical difficulty and steepness. Trails may have an abundance of large rocks, roots, ruts and drop offs, some of which most riders will only traverse pushing their bike.  Some trails, such as the Fir Trail from Resolution Trail to Methuselah Trail, are really only ridable downhill.  Also beware that the trails start at the highest elevations of the park; many riders enjoy the 1600 foot descent only to find the trails too steep and technical to climb back out. It can be a long walk.  ECDMC gets heavy coastal fog and can be cold at any time of the year.  In addition to the trails, there is a large old-growth redwood in the park that escaped logging and one across State Route 35 that is one of the largest in the Santa Cruz mountains.  There are also unique sandstone formations and a memorial to a 1953 airline crash in the park.  Restrooms are at the main parking lot.

In the Wet Season:  Giant Salamander Trail is closed during the wet season because of endangered salamanders.   Other trails may be closed seasonally due to deterioration, landslides, and flooding.  Otherwise, most trails are ridable in wet conditions.  ECDMC gets heavy coastal fog, so wet conditions may be present year round.

Directions:  The main parking lot is on State Route 35 (Skyline Blvd.) 2.8 miles north of State Route 84 or 2.8 miles south of Kings Mountain Rd.  Google Maps link to parking location is here. A second small roadside lot is 0.6 miles north of the main parking lot, and the Skeggs Point parking lot is 1.1 mile north of the main parking lot, both on Skyline Blvd.  There are also five entrances on Star Hill Rd and two on Bear Gulch Rd., but there is no official parking on either road.
