Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park

Felton

Click the buttons below to explore recommended routes for this park

Description: Henry Cowell Redwoods contains 7 miles of trails ranging from the 3 mile paved Pipeline Road to the extremely difficult and steep single track/dirt Rincon Fire Road Trail.  Our recommended 1000 footer is relatively easy and short.  The Big Ride takes in nearly all the trails and is extremely difficult.  Most trails are in a redwood forest and on the east side of San Lorenzo River.  A crossing of the river opens access to Pogonip and other trails in the Santa Cruz Mountains, but requires wading and is not possible in the winter months when water is high.  See a separate entry for Redwoods to the Ocean for very challenging routes that start in Henry Cowell and continue on through other parks to the Ocean.  Restrooms are at the main parking lot and at the north end of Powder Mill Trail in the campground.

In the Wet Season: Trails are open

Directions: There are three entrances.  Our recommended rides begin at the free lot on Graham Hill Rd. between Treetop Drive and Meyer Dr. just north of Santa Cruz. A link to the parking location in Google Maps is here. The main entrance to the park is on State Route 9 in Felton and parking fees are collected.  A third entrance is on State Route 9 at the Rincon Trail entrance and parking lot, 2.6 miles north of State Route 1 in Santa Cruz.  The third entrance requires wading the San Lorenzo river to access most of the trails in the park.
