Redwoods to the Ocean Big Ride – Turn by Turn:

  1. Park at the Rincon Fire Road lot of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park on State Route 9.   Cross State Route 9 to take the Rincon Connector Trail into Pogonip Santa Cruz City Park.  0.4 miles, single track and dirt road. 
  2. Right on UCON Trail. 0.8 miles, single track, climb
  3. At the top of the UCON Trail, cross into UC Santa Cruz and the Fuel Break Road Trail. Straight on Fuel Break Road Trail. 0.2 miles, dirt road, climb
  4. Right on Chinquapin Trail. 2.0 miles, dirt road, climb
  5. Cross Empire Grade Road. Continue straight on Chinquapin Trail into Wilder Ranch State Park.  1.3 miles, dirt road, descent
  6. Right on Eucalyptus Loop Trail. 1.3 miles, dirt road, descent
  7. Left on Wilder Ridge Loop Trail. 0.6 miles, dirt road, descent
  8. Right on Zane Gray Cutoff Trail 1.0 mile, single track, descent
  9. Veer left onto Wilder Ridge Loop Trail. 1.5 miles, single track, rolling
  10. Veer right onto Wilder Ridge Loop Trail. 0.7 miles, dirt road, descent
  11. Right onto Corral Trail when you come to the corral and horse arena.  Cross the cattle guard, go through the pedestrian tunnel under State Route 1, then walk your bike through the historical Wilder Ranch buildings.  0.3 miles total, dirt paths, flat
  12. Once past the park office, turn right on the paved Old Coast Road. Go through the main parking lot and out the main entrance station.  Before reaching State Route 1, there is a wide dirt road to the left.  Turn left there.  Cross the Railroad tracks.  0.6 miles total, paved and dirt road, rolling.
  13. Immediately after crossing the railroad tracks turn right to ride alongside them.  This is the Ohlone Bluff Trail.  0.2 miles total, gravel road, flat.
  14. Left to stay on Ohlone Bluff Trail to the ocean and Sand Beach overlook.  0.4 miles, single track, flat. 
  15. Turn around, retrace your route back to the corral and horse arena.  1.5 miles
  16. Once past the corral, Right on Engelsmans Loop Trail. 0.1 miles, dirt road, flat.
  17. At the fork, bear left to stay on Englesmans Loop Trail.  The right side of the fork has the same name because it is the return of Engelsmans Loop Trail.  1.9 miles, single track, climb
  18. Left on Wild Boar Trail, 0.5 miles, single track, climb
  19. Left on Old Cabin Trail, 0.9 miles, single track, descent then climb
  20. Right on Eucalyptus Loop Trail, 1.1 miles, dirt road, climb
  21. Right on Chinquapin Trail, 1.3 miles, dirt road, climb
  22. Cross Empire Grade Road into UC Santa Cruz.  Continue Straight on Chinquapin Trail, 2.0 miles, dirt road, descent
  23. Left on Fuel Break Road Trail, 0.2 miles, dirt road, descent
  24. Straight onto UCON Trail, 0.8 miles, single track, descent
  25. Left onto Rincon Connector Trail,  0.4 miles, dirt road and single track, rolling
