Wilder Ranch  – The Flat Ride Turn by Turn:

  1. Begin at the Wilder Ranch parking area.  Alternative start is to park along Mission St Extended in Santa Cruz and catch the County Bike Trail that runs along California State Route 1 (Coast Rd.) directly to Wilder Ranch.  This adds 2.5 miles of paved bike trail to the ride each way (total of 5 miles added) but makes for a nice warm up.
  2. Exit the parking lot through the main entrance, past the ranger entrance booth.  Turn left on the first dirt road past the park buildings but before exiting the park onto State Route 1, which is the beginning of the Ohlone Bluff Trail. 0.1 Mile, dirt road
  3. Cross the railroad tracks.  Make an immediate right on the coast side of the railroad tracks to stay on Ohlone Bluff Trail.  You will be riding immediately alongside the tracks.  0.1 mile, gravel
  4. Left on the first single track trail to stay on Ohlone Bluff Trail. Follow this trail along the edge of the bluff.  2.8 miles, single track.
  5. At 3 miles from the start of the ride, the trail will return to the railroad tracks to go around an inlet.  Turn left at the tracks for 0.2 miles, then
  6. Turn left again on the single track to follow the bluff back towards the ocean. 1.7 mile, single track.  At 4.3 miles from the start of the ride, the trail again turns inland to go around an inlet and heads back to the railroad tracks.
  7. When you reach the railroad tracks, turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.   4.7 miles, single track.
