Description:  The San Francisco Bay Trail is a series of shoreline trails that connect to circumnavigate the San Francisco Bay.  The trail, when complete, will be a continuous walking/biking path over 200 miles long.  This particular section follows levees along the southern edge of the Bay.  The trail is completely flat and a very easy ride. Our recommended ride is an out and back on a 9 mile segment with a one way ride on a 4 mile loop that follows levees into the Bay roughly in the middle.  This particular segment has parking at either end and in the middle, so it is easy to alter it to make the ride shorter if desired.  Of the potential 22 mile round trip, 35% is pavement, 45% is hard packed crushed rock (Path fines) and 20% is dirt or gravel.  Bird life is abundant in the wetlands that line the southern part of the Bay.  Winds can also be abundant, especially in the afternoon.
