San Francisco Bay Trail – The Flat Ride Turn by Turn from the west end parking:
- Take San Francisco Bay Trail east from Shoreline Lake parking lot. The trail parallels the auto road through Shoreline Park. 0.3 Paved trail.
- Left on San Francisco Bay Trail north away from the road. The trail follows the bay, then turns south along a slough. 1.0 mile Paved trail.
- Left at first wooden bridge. Then a quick right and left onto a second wooden bridge. 0.1
- Left onto San Francisco Bay Trail. The trail follows the edge of the Bay on levees around NASA Moffett Field. You will see the military golf course, then wetlands. 3.7 miles. Crushed rock path
- The trail T’s into another Levee. Left here to do a loop on levees through the bay. 4.5 miles Dirt/gravel road
- When back at the starting point of the loop, continue straight 500 ft, then make a u-turn around the end of a slough and through the open gate in a chain link fence. Follow the opposite side of the slough. The path, still the San Francisco Bay Trail again follows the edge of the Bay, and eventually Ts into a paved bike trail. 2.2 miles gravel road, then crushed rock path.
- Left on Paved bike trail, which is both the San Francisco Bay Trail and the Highway 237 Trail, continue 0.8 miles to Great America Parkway.
- Cross Great America Parkway to continue on the paved bike path. 0.1 miles.
- Left on Gold Street to the Alviso Education Center, and outdoor interpretive display about Alviso and water supply, on the right. 0.2 miles.
- Turn around, retrace steps back to Shoreline Lake, excluding the extra loop through the Bay.
There is no elevation profile since this route is flat.
